11th Grade – Algebra II (2024–2025)
Course Focus
A deeper study of functions, equations, and mathematical relationships used in advanced sciences and real-world problem-solving.
Core Skills Developed
- Graphing and analyzing quadratic, exponential, and radical functions
- Solving polynomial equations with factoring and the quadratic formula
- Interpreting real-world scenarios with algebraic models
- Strengthening mathematical reasoning and accuracy
Curriculum & Learning Tools
- Primary: Math-U-See Algebra II + Khan Academy review
- Desmos for graphing practice
- Real-life applied challenges (interest rates, motion, data)
Major Assignments & Projects
- Function Investigation: Exploring transformations of quadratics using Desmos
- Financial Math Project: Calculating compound interest & comparing savings strategies
- Data Collection Lab: Analyzing speed/time measurements from basketball drills
Projects
11th Grade – Algebra II Work Sample (Preview)
I used the quadratic formula to find the zeros of the function and then checked my answers by plugging them back into the equation. The graph confirmed my solutions matched the x-intercepts. When I changed the value of “a,” the parabola became narrower or wider, which helped me see how each part of the equation affects the shape.

10th Grade – Geometry (2023–2024)
Course Focus
Understanding shapes, angles, and spatial reasoning through proofs and construction.
Core Skills Developed
- Congruence & similarity through triangle proofs
- Circles, arcs, and construction using tools/software
- Area/volume calculations for 2D & 3D shapes
- Logic, reasoning, and formal mathematical writing
Curriculum & Learning Tools
- Geometry curriculum with Khan Academy supplements
- GeoGebra software for digital constructions
- Hands-on measurement activities
Major Assignments & Projects
- Sports Geometry Mini-Study: Angle relationships in basketball shots & rebounds
- Home Design Blueprint: Scaled floor-plan model showing area & perimeter
- Proof Portfolio: Step-by-step written justifications (uploaded as PDF samples)
(These projects help show authentic application of math to daily life and athletics.)
Projects
10th Grade – Geometry Work Sample (Preview)
When I built my triangle proof, I first identified the given information and wrote it on the left side. Then I used definitions of congruent angles to build each step. It helped me understand that every conclusion must come from a reason; you can’t just “guess” the answer.

9th Grade – Algebra I (2022–2023)
Course Focus
Building the foundation for all high-school math: equations, functions, patterns, and logic.
Core Skills Developed
- Solving linear equations & inequalities
- Graphing in the coordinate plane
- Identifying functions from tables & graphs
- Interpreting word problems & writing expressions
Curriculum & Learning Tools
- Algebra curriculum aimed at fluency and confidence
- Practice worksheets + interactive quizzes
- Calculator & graphing basics
Major Assignments & Projects
- Linear Equation Art Project: Creating pixel art from coordinates
- Budgeting Activity: Planning expenses with a real cost constraint
- Function Sorting Lab: Classifying linear vs. nonlinear situations
Projects
10th Grade – Geometry Work Sample (Preview)
When I graphed the equation y = 2x – 3, I saw that every point followed the same pattern. The slope told me how fast the line goes up, and the y-intercept showed exactly where it crossed the axis. It helped me understand that equations are like directions for where to draw the line.

Skills & Standards Mastery
By the end of 11th grade, Jane is on track to demonstrate:
- Confidence with multi-step equations
- Strong understanding of functions and graphing
- Ability to interpret data and justify reasoning
- Spatial reasoning and measurement accuracy
- Readiness for Pre-Calculus or college-level quantitative courses
Parent/Evaluator Progress Summary
Jane demonstrates consistent growth in both math fluency and mathematical thinking. She applies concepts to real-life projects, especially connected to athletics, showing purpose behind the learning. She is recommended to continue advancing into Pre-Calculus in 12th grade.
Her 11th grade work reflects a college-prep level of effort and achievement, and she is recommended to advance to 12th grade English.
